Forgive me. I have abandoned you. It’s been August since I paid you any attention. This is so appalling. To make up for it, I shall post some views of beautiful Sydney. We went there for a weekend at the beginning of September and the weather was so kind – the sun shone on us for two whole days. It was a treat to leave behind New Zealand’s relentless wind and rain. We stayed at the Park Hyatt, tucked in under the Sydney Harbour bridge, down at The Rocks. The service was charming, the hotel is luxurious, we had a great time. Colin went to the rugby on Saturday night, where the All Blacks beat the Wallabies – a great game (I watched on tv from the comfort of the hotel room). On Sunday afternoon at the Sydney Theatre Company we saw a fantastic play, “August: Osage County”, by Tracy Letts, performed by the Steppenwolf Theatre Company. It was three hours long, with two intervals, in the classic Tennessee Williams/American style drama, and we so enjoyed it. You laughed, you cried, you were moved. It was full of emotion and power. If you ever get the chance to see it – go. This was not like watching a drama, it was like watching a real live dysfunctional family disintegrate before your eyes. Afterwards we wandered over the road to Venturo, an Italian restaurant in Walsh Bay, where the waitress recommended a beautiful bottle of red wine, Apollonio Terragnolo Primitivo 2004.
