Cycling the Countryside

The most perfectly beautiful day today, it’s like we turned the page from spring to summer – well, almost. A great day to try out my flash new bicycle – a Raleigh Retro, ladies’ bike, with big seat, high and wide handlebars, a basket up front and carrier out back, white walled tyres, wide wheels – I feel like I’m in Paris sitting up high with a straight back, riding so sedately. It also has three gears, pedal back brakes and handlebar front brakes. In other words, it’s very nice.

Each Thursday, after tennis, a group of us go cycling around the Wairarapa. Today we drove to Woodside Railway Station, west of Greytown, unloaded our bikes and headed up the Waiohine River Road. I managed to take some photos to show just how glorious our environment is. Eat your hearts out, city dwellers:
